Brazilian waxing is performed in order to remove hair from the vagina, perineum and anal region. This may involve removing every shred of hair from the bikini area, whereas some prefer to leave a small strip of hair on the front. This is a hair removal technique that has become extremely popular over the past few years and is the most intimate type of waxing performed in salons. How much hair is waxed from your pubic area is a matter of personal preference and it makes sense to consult with a professional beforehand. The main reason many women have a Brazilian wax is because it allows them to wear extremely revealing lingerie and bikinis.

The Procedure

Waxing

  • Firstly, any excess hair will be trimmed away with scissors prior to wax being applied to the pubic area a small amount at a time. Hair will be removed with the wax and then the procedure continues. A non-strip wax will be used for Brazilian waxing, which means it will be applied in strips and allowed to dry, before being removed. The wax used for this procedure has been specifically designed to be used on sensitive areas of the body, although you will typically be asked to pull the skin in order to tighten it as wax strips are removed.
  • You will usually be supplied with a towel to drape over yourself, although if you feel comfortable the procedure is best performed with a completely naked bottom-half. The procedure will typically be a little painful, but this is because of the area being treated. There are a number of wax creams which have been created in order to ease the potential discomfort, and most salons will usually use these products.
  • You should notice that after your first treatment the results will last for anywhere from 3 weeks up to 6 weeks, although this will very much depend on you and how quickly your hair normally grows. You should notice no hair growth for the first couple of weeks, and then hair will begin to reappear over the following two weeks. You should also be aware that hair will grow quicker through heat stimulation, so you may need to get waxed more often in the summer months.

Are There Any Side-Effects?

Most people will not experience any side-effects apart from some redness and some minor itching, although this will very much depend on the person.

However, in order to minimize the onset of Waxing irritation and itchiness there are a number of things you can do:

  • You should avoid the sun immediately following the procedure and always wear sun screen, as the area will typically become a lot darker if exposed to the sun.
  • You shouldn’t undertake any intense form of exercise for the following 24 hours
  • You should allow at least two days before entering a sauna, steam room, etc.
  • Do not use any scrubbing or exfoliating products for at least a whole day after the procedure has been completed.
  • Do not wear tight clothing immediately afterwards, as this can increase the likelihood of irritation.
  • After the first 24 hours you should regularly exfoliate in order to avoid problems such as in-growing hairs.
  • You should avoid having a hot shower or bath and oral sex for approximately 12 hours afterwards.
