Maybe you are lucky enough to have had someone buy you a spa day as a present, or perhaps you are considering spoiling yourself for the day. Whatever your reason for booking a day in a spa, if you haven’t been before then it is easy to get anxious about what will happen. You needn’t worry – you will be looked after, pampered and treated all day long! In this article we will tell you a little more about what to expect from your spa day so that you can go prepared.

What Should I Take?

The first thing that people always ask is what they should take with them to the spa day. The answer is – very little! You will need a bikini or a swimsuit, but everything else will be provided. When you arrive you will be given a dressing gown and a towel, along with a key for a locker (sometimes you might need a coin to operate the locker). Once you have been given these things you will be invited to go to the changing rooms and change into your swimsuit and dressing gown. Everything else, including all jewellery, should go into the locker for safe-keeping.

What Happens Next?

You will normally book your treatments in advance, and therefore you will be given an itinerary of the day’s events by the staff in the spa. During times when no treatment is happening you will be told to make use of the sauna, steam room, swimming pool and jacuzzi. There is usually a clock in every room so that you can keep an eye on the time and not be late for your next appointment.

What About the Spa Treatments?

Whatever treatments you choose, you will be talked through each of them by your consultant. Some of the treatments you may go for include a back, neck and shoulder massage, a full body massage, a mud wrap, a manicure and pedicure or even a head massage. Your practitioner will tell you what they need you to do in order to prepare for the treatment – they are with you every step of the way so don’t be scared to ask questions.

What About Spa Refreshments?

Spa Refreshments

Most spas have a bar and restaurant built in, and lunch is normally included within the deal. You will be able to sit in the restaurant with your dressing gown on, feeling very decadent indeed! You will be served a healthy meal with a drink of your choice. Make the most of this time and grab a paper or a magazine to immerse yourself in while you eat. How often do you get to do this?! Make the most of it! If you are hungry or thirsty during the day then just let someone know and they will point you in the direction of some snacks and drinks.

A spa day is a day where you should feel totally relaxed and at ease in order to get the most from it. Don’t be anxious or nervous, you have a wonderful day of pampering ahead of you, so look forward to it!
