Some people tend to drink a lot of water every day, while others can go an entire day without even touching a glass of water and instead focus on sugary drinks like sodas and caffeinated beverages like coffee. But if you do not get enough pure water into your body every day, you will definitely end up suffering with the side effects of not being properly hydrated.

To understand why it is so important to stay hydrated every day, continue reading. The information below should serve as a wake-up call if you do not consume enough water while you are at home or at work, whether your water comes from a well, a municipal source, or you prefer purchasing bottled water and reusing or recycling the bottles.

Even Being Slightly Dehydrated is Bad

Having enough hydration means that your body will be able to function optimally. If you are even just 2% dehydrated, your body will suffer the side effects. You may not realize it, but enzymatic activity slows down when you are dehydrated, so your body may not be able to produce enough energy. That is why a lot of people feel sluggish when they are even somewhat dehydrated. When your body is unable to produce enough energy, you won’t be able to get through your day, never mind your intense workouts to stay in shape, and your metabolism will fall as well.

Every cell in your body realizes when there is not enough water in your system. These cells, which are responsible for everything your body does, including digesting food, eliminating toxins and wastes, lubricating your joints, and maintaining your body temperature, won’t be able to function properly if you are not hydrated.

Symptoms of Dehydration

Headache Dehydration

When you are dehydrated, every system in your body, from your urinary system and your kidneys to your stomach and your skin, feel the effects. And when symptoms occur that you take note of, they include headaches, constipation, dry mouth, thirst, muscle cramps, fatigue, dizziness, and the inability to concentrate or remember things. Again, these are symptoms that arise after you have become even more dehydrated, and after your cells have already recognized that there is a problem because they are unable to function properly. The best thing to do at this point is make sure you drink enough water to replenish all the lost moisture.

How to Get Enough Hydration

In order to get enough hydration into your body every day to keep it running perfectly, try to drink the recommended eight glasses of water every day. I’d recommend getting some custom nalgene bottles to have with you during the day to make sure you get your eight glasses of water a day. Juices, teas, coffee, and sodas can count towards your intake, but you shouldn’t focus on these types of beverages. Instead, focus on drinking more pure water that your body can use right away without needing to filter out any excess materials, like sugar and caffeine.

Staying hydrated is vitally important to human health. A lot of people do not realize that some of their health concerns, such as chronic headaches and fatigue, may stem from not drinking enough water.
