Unfortunately not all illnesses have a cure, and sometimes we just have to suffer through being sick. It can be miserable, and you want to feel better as soon as possible. Here are some tips that can help speed up your recovery.

Increase Your Vitamin C Intake

Vitamin C is an excellent nutrient for helping your body fight sickness, and it can really do wonders to cure whatever virus or germs are affecting you. At the smallest sign of getting sick, increase your vitamin C intake. Drink orange juice, eat oranges, take a supplement, or use a product like the drink mix Emergen-C. You will start to feel stronger more quickly.

Keep Yourself Moving

When you’re sick and all you want to do is lay in bed, it’s completely understandable. Not being on your feet at all, however, can be worse for you. You need to find a careful balance between moving too little and too much. When you’re sick, try to take several short walks around the house during the day. It will help boost your circulation and blood flow.

Keep a Positive Attitude

Lots of people strongly believe that their mental attitudes directly affect the way they feel physically. Being sick is depressing and not fun, and it can cause you to feel a variety of negative emotions. Instead of wallowing in them, try to keep a positive attitude. Don’t focus on things like what you’re missing by being sick or how bad you feel or how boring it is. Think positive thoughts, such as reminding yourself it will all be over soon.

Get Rid of the Germs

If you’re spending most of your time in your room or on the couch while you’re sick, you can help yourself feel better faster by trying to get rid of the germs that are around you. Disinfect surfaces you touch, wash and change your bed sheets, and open a window. Cleaning and letting fresh air into the room will both help eliminate germs that could just keep you sick for longer.

Take the Appropriate Medication

Medicine can really help you feel better much faster, so try taking some of the appropriate medicines when you’re sick. Over-the-counter products are usually sufficient for treating the symptoms of viruses that don’t respond to antibiotics, like the flu or the common cold. Acetaminophen can reduce pain. Ibuprofen can reduce pain and fever. Cough suppressants, nasal decongestants, sleeping aids, etc., can all help improve the way you feel. Just be sure to use them exactly as directed, and try to use the minimum you feel you need.

Get Enough Rest

Some people don’t stop to rest when they’re sick, and they just keep going. They suffer through work, running errands, or completing household chores and normal responsibilities. Don’t do this. It’s so important to get rest when you’re very sick. Running yourself ragged will only make you feel worse, longer. You might not want to, but getting extra rest is what will help cure you.
